The Province of Mpumalanga is situated on the north-eastern part of South Africa, with a population of 3 million. Nelspruit is the capital of the province, however, has industrial cities namely, Witbank, Middelburg and Secunda which are host to some of the major industrial complexes.

The Gross Geographic Product (GGP) of the Mpumalanga in 2005 stood at R94.5 billion. The Province is an exporter of a variety of metals, minerals and agricultural products. Major destination for the Province’s exports include European Union (EU), United States of America (USA), Japan, India, China, Mozambique and other Southern African Development Community (SADC). 

The Maputo Development Corridor links the Province with the industrial hub of Gauteng with the port of Maputo. This provides investors with rather easy access to export markets in the Far East and Europe. Mpumalanga has its own world class Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (KMIA), with a runway of 3.2 kilometers long capable of handling both large cargo and passengers aircraft.

The Agency was formed as a Government Imageinitiative to see to the increase of economic activity in the Mpumalanga Province as a way of boosting levels of employment, eradicating porverty and increasing the countrys' economy in general.
