The South African Province of Mpumalanga in the north-eastern corner of South Africa neighbouring Mozambique to the east, Swaziland to the south-east with the South African provinces of Limpopo, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal forming its remaining borders. It may well be described as a land of contrast and continuities, of history and of industry, of wildlife and power generation, of diversity and cooperation, of Highveld and Lowveld.

The Provincial capital of Nelspruit is situated on the Maputo Development Corridor which runs from the industrial heartland of Gauteng east towards the port city of Maputo in Mozambique. Other major industrial centres in Mpumalanga are Witbank (coal, stainless steel), Middelburg (stainless steel ) and Secunda (petrochemicals).

Geographically Mpumalanga, comprises 65% of South Africa’s surface area and varies from the grasslands of the Highveld in the west, dropping down the escarpment to the subtropical Lowveld in the east. Economically the western part of the province is dominated by industry, coal mining and commercial dryland agriculture while forestry and tourism is the main economic activity in the eastern lowveld region.
